Should I have a First Look?

Wedding, Wedding Planning

If you’re on the fence about having a first look, let me share a perspective that you may not have explored yet.
1. When my couples opt for a first look, you get to spend your wedding day WITH your fiance. You don’t have to wait until the ceremony to spend time together. Who wants to be away from their (so soon-to-be) spouse?! We feel that if you’re spending the rest of your life together, why shouldn’t you spend the day that you join your lives together be spent together too?

2. First Looks are private, so you (or your fiance) can freely feel all of the emotions that flood your minds when you see each other for the first time. You can take as much time as you need; this is such a special moment. Then when you’re ready, we’ll begin portraits. Which brings me to point number three…

3. You get more portraits when you do a first look! You get to have truly intimate portraits of your reactions, and then you can get the family formals photos out of the way before the ceremony! Then after your ceremony later, you get JUST MARRIED portraits with your husband! That’s a win-win in my book!

It is likely that you may have a more traditional family member or close friend telling you that you “can’t see your spouse before you walk down the aisle, it’s bad luck!” But I tell my couples that when you share a first look, it really makes your wedding day about the two of you as a couple. It removes the stress and allows you to look back on your wedding day with such fond memories of the two of you. I understand some are more superstitious, but we think that your wedding day goes even better when you get to do a private first look! It opens up your timeline to be more flexible for the just in case times!

Fueled by equal parts sweet tea and passion, I spend my days capturing the kinds of images that make you stop, smile and ask time to please slow down. Your story, your love, is beautiful and I can't wait to capture it in images you will treasure for years to come. I believe in real moments and heartfelt conversations on the front porch. In the kinds of images that remind you of the joy that can be found in the simplest of moments together.

And I can't wait to get to know you!
